This item shall consist of the removal of ballasted tracks including rails, fasteners, tie plates, ties, and ballast down to sub-grade, removing material from property.
 
Measurement Payment will be made on the number of linear feet of track removed based on measured distance of the centerline of track.

5.5.2 Removal of Ballasted Rail Complete  
 
This item shall consist of the removal of ballasted rail, fasteners, tie plates, ties and ballast down to sub grade. Material to be stockpiled on property or in dumpsters supplied by Purchaser.

5.5.3 Transpose Rail
This item shall consist of transposing 1 rail, supplying new spikes and bolts.

5.5.4 Place Standard Gauge Railroad Track
This item shall consist of installing standard gauge railroad track both rails complete, (see 5.5.10) using grade and size placed on centers. Rail grade rail size with matching plates and splice bars, new spike, bolts and washers. Excavation excluded.
 
Measurement Payment will be made on the number of linear feet of track installed based on measured distance of the centerline of track.

5.5.5 Replace Stock Rail, Complete

This item shall consist of removing rail, fasteners and tie plates, furnish and install rail,  tie plates, bars, NEW spikes, bolts and washers, exclusive of ties and ballast.

5.5.6 Replace Closure Rail - Complete

This item shall consist of removing the old closure rail, furnishing material and installing a new closure rail complete.

This item shall consist of furnishing supervision, labor and equipment to remove, stockpile and reuse existing ballast

5.5.10 Ballast - Furnish and Place
This item shall consist of furnishing and placing ballast for tracks‘ Ballast used shall meet the specification for ballast grade A as defined in the construction and maintenance section of the American Railway Engineering Association Manual
 
Measurement Payment will be made on the basis of actual tons of material placed within the ballasted cross-sectioned area as per design drawings or field sketches or as required by actual condition of existing track work and conversion to tons or actual scale weigh tickets.

5.5.11 Removal of Ballasted Turnouts

5.5.22 Install &/or remove Bumping Post

5.5.24 Ballasted Railroad Track Maintenance
This item shall consist of all necessary maintenance on existing ballasted tracks, including raising, tamping and lining of track. This item will apply when the amount of raising is less than 2” and the amount of throw necessary for realignment is less than 0.1 foot. Any additional ballast necessary will be paid for under Item 5.5.9 Ballast - Furnish and Place.

5.5.25 Replace Manual Switch Stand Complete

This item shall consist of removing the old manual switch stand furnishing material and installing a switch stand complete in working order.

5.5.26 Replace Automatic Switch Stand -Complete

This item shall’ consist of removing the old automatic switch stand  , furnishing material and installing a  switch stand complete in working order

5.5.27 Adjustment of Switch
This item shall consist of making the necessary adjustments to put the switch in proper working order.

5.5.28 Track gaging
   
This item shall consist of physically moving, installing new bolts as necessary and re-spiking, using new spikes, one or both rails in order to bring track back to the correct gauge. Using creosote tie plugs.

5.5.29 Replace Manganese Guard Rail- Complete

This item shall consist of removing the old manganese guard rail, furnishing material and installing a guard rail complete.

5.5.35 Track Walker- Inspector

This item shall consist of inspecting while walking the track and ‘providing Purchaser with a written report of track and switch conditions within seven (7) days.

5.5.36 Switch Oiler
 
This item shall consist of furnishing oil, properly oiling switches and advising Purchaser in writing within seven (7) days of the switches serviced. 
Measurement Payment will be made on the basis of oiling all switches once each week.

5.5.37 Thermite Welded Joints
 
This item shall consist of furnishing necessary materials and equipment and performing “Thermite” welding of joints. 
Measurement Payment: will be made for each "Thermite" welded joint.

5.5.38 Switch Heaters
This item shall consist of placing 6 to 8 switch oil heaters at each switch, 3 or 4 between ties under each side of switch at onset of winter weather and removal, repair and storage in the spring. Heaters are to be fueled and lighted prior to winter storms and continue to be refueled and lighted each day until weather conditions improve. Fuel oil for heaters is to be furnished by the Contractor. 
 
Measurement Payment: will be made for refueling and lighting on the basis of a refill for all heaters for all switches designated to be equipped with switch oil heaters. Payment for placement, removal, repair and storage of all heaters will be made on the basis of a lump sum per year, and paid as follows: 60% for placement at onset of winter; 20% for removal in the spring; and 20% for repair and storage.

5.5.39 Switch Spraying

 

This item shall consist of blowing, sweeping or shoveling snow out of switches as necessary and spraying with calcium chloride during inclement winter weather. Calcium chloride is to be furnished by the Purchaser from a storage tank located at the Coke Plant Gate. 
 
Measurement Payment: will be made for spraying switches on the basis of each spraying of all switches designated to be sprayed.

5.5.40 Track Cleaning

Contractor shall provide all necessary supervision, labor, equipment and tools necessary to clean railroad tracks of miscellaneous materials down to the top of the ties for track maintenance. Removed debris is to be segregated and accumulated in either scrap boxes as provided or in piles along the tracks for removal by others. Dirt and ‘debris is to be disposed of at a site to be designated by Purchaser.
